The Blind Leading the Blind

Barack Obama take note.  For the first two years of your administration you lost your way.  You however are at fault for the sorriest choice of advisors of any Democratic president in modern history.  And, lo and behold, you have just compounded the error with your most recent selections.  Oh, and thanks but no thanks for thumbing your nose once again at your base.

Andromeda by Rembrandt and Vasari

It’s amazing how contemporary history and economics intertwine with ancient mythology.  Substitute Andromeda for the middle class, constrained as it is by the collusion of government and corporations, and we can see a modern parallel.

In Greek mythology Andromeda, whose mother was Cassiopeia, was chained to the rock to be sacrificed to a sea monster as punishment for her  mother’s bragging.    This story has a happy ending however.  Andromeda was rescued by Perseus.  They married, had eight children and presumably lived happily ever after.

The fate of the middle class in America is an unfinished story whose outcome is still in doubt.  In all likelihood, if present trends continue, the tale will not have a happy ending.

The paintings below are by Renaissance masters.  Give Rembrandt credit for modesty.  Or perhaps he was just sexually repressed.  Not so the hot blooded Italian.
