The Mendacity of Hope*

Would you vote for a president who did any of these things:

Broke a campaign pledge to support a public option.

Signed HRC legislation that was so weak that it left health insurance badly in need of reform

Endorsed the dismantling of New Deal financial regulation.

Signed legislation that left Wall Street practices badly in need of reform, reinforced banks that were too big to fail and are now stronger than ever.

Supported two illegal wars started by a previous president who lied to the nation about the need for war and then intensified the actions in one of those wars.

Continued to incarcerate prisoners without legal representation or trial by jury, to spy on Americans, endorse political assassinations and refuse to close Guantanamo.

Vowed to support Net Neutrality and then reneged on his promise.

Established a Cat Food Commission and then rigged it to ensure recommendations to cut Social Security.

Signed off on two wholly inadequate stimulus plans that were weighted heavily toward tax cuts.

Extended tax cuts for the wealthy further endangering the economic security of the nation.

Permitted his Justice Department to approve one of the biggest telecommunications mergers in history

Cut a deal with Republicans for a puny payroll tax cut that virtually ensures reductions in Social Security and threatens the future of the program.

Abandoned working people of Main Street by endorsing illegal foreclosures by Wall Street banks.

Would you vote for such a man for president even if his name was Barack Obama?

You do have an option.  If you are a liberal such as I am and believe you have already wasted a vote by casting your ballot for Obama, you can abstain.  When you are in the voting booth, do not vote for any candidate who does not represent what you believe in, what you stand for.  Leave the presidential field blank.  Abstain.  To do otherwise is to endorse all of the foregoing.

*The title of this post is taken from a book by Roger D. Hodge entitled The Mendacity of Hope:  Barack Obama and the Betrayal of American Liberalism.  The book is an excellent read and sheds light on the depth of the treachery foisted on the middle class by the current president.

The post itself is original and comprised wholly of my own words and opinions.
